Case Study: SideStage TV

Translating a Vision into a
Multi-Platform Travel Media Brand

Situation: The Untranslated Challenge

The rise of short-form video created a new opportunity in the travel media space. While influencers were creating vast amounts of engaging travel content for platforms like YouTube, there was no central, curated home for this content. The founders of SideStage.com saw a vision for a new kind of travel network—one that would aggregate these videos for a dedicated website and, ambitiously, a 24/7 streaming channel on devices like Roku. The concept was strong, but it existed only as an idea. It needed a brand, a visual identity, and a cohesive user experience to become a reality.

Task: My Mission as the Translator

As the Creative Director for the project, my mission was to translate this ambitious vision into a complete, multi-platform brand experience. I was responsible for designing every component of the brand's identity, from the core logo to the user experience across streaming devices, the web, and social media. The goal was to create a cohesive and appealing brand that would attract both travel influencers to share their content and a dedicated audience of viewers.

Action: My Holistic Process in Motion
Building this brand required a truly holistic approach, ensuring a seamless experience no matter where the user encountered SideStage.com.

Uncovering the Core Story: I began by defining the core essence of the brand: "Your window to the world." This concept guided all subsequent design decisions, focusing on a feeling of discovery, authenticity, and adventure.

Strategy & Brand Identity: I designed the logo and the complete brand identity system. The visual language was crafted to be vibrant and dynamic, reflecting the energy of travel, while also being clean and functional enough to work across a wide range of digital applications, from a TV screen to a mobile phone.

Execution & Multi-Platform Design: I designed the user interface and experience for each distinct platform:

Streaming (Roku): The primary challenge was designing a simple, intuitive navigation system for a TV remote. I focused on a highly visual, tile-based layout that made browsing channels and videos effortless from the couch.

Web: The website (sidestage.com) was designed to be a more content-rich experience, featuring video carousels, influencer profiles, and travel guides to encourage deeper engagement.

Media: I created a suite of templates and visual guidelines for social channels to ensure the brand's voice and look were consistent, helping to attract the target influencer community.

Result: A Successful Translation

The comprehensive brand strategy and design work led to a successful launch and, more importantly, long-term viability.

The Launch: SideStage.TV successfully launched across all target platforms with a cohesive and professional brand identity that immediately established its credibility in the travel media space.

The Strategic Impact: The most powerful validation of this work is its longevity. The SideStage.TV channels are still in operation today, a testament to the strength and appeal of the foundational brand and user experience I created.

What I learned: This project was a masterclass in designing a truly integrated brand system. It taught me how to translate a core creative idea into vastly different user contexts—from a 10-foot TV experience to a 5-inch mobile screen—while maintaining a single, unified brand soul.
